Chronology In Question

The UN Refugee Agency Has a Luba Chronology. Dr. Bukonda has reviewed this (and you can do so yourself) and found some questions. Please go to the link below and read up on your Luba History.

Chronology for Luba in the Dem. Rep. of the Congo in question:

< Mar 1993 Mobutu dismisses Tshisekedi for a second time and names Faustin Birindwa prime minister of the so-called "government of national salvation." Zaire effectively has two rival governments.
Oct 1993 Oxfam launches the largest single aid project in Africa to help the Luba-Kasai who has been expelled from their homes since August 1992.
Dec 1993 Karl-i-Bond and Governor Kyungu declare the Shaba region autonomous.
1994 - 1995 Reports continue to illuminate the plight of the Luba-Kasai. Regional government officials continue to provoke ethnic hatred in Shaba and to expel inhabitants. Governor Kyungu controls local television and much of the press. The pro-Kasai press is hampered by intimidation and attacks by the youth movement Juferi.
Apr 1994 The Sacred Union of Radical Opposition (a coalition of opposition parties) announces that it has founded an army. Its mission is to topple the Mobutu regime.>>

Mr. Joshua Walker

This is an email I recieved the other day...

Tshilumba moyiau,

I found your blog by accident on the web yesterday. My name is Joshua Walker and I am a graduate student in anthropology at th University of Chicago. I am planning to do my research in Mbujimayi, and to that end I went to Mbujimayi this summer for 6 weeks to begin learning ciluba. The reason I write is that I am wondering if you can assist me in finding ciluba speakers in Chicago (or the Chicago area) who might be willing to meet with me from time to time to speak ciluba.

Twasakidila wa bungi. Ndi ngindila dyandamuna dyeebe.

Mr. Joshua Walker we are working on your request as we speak. Soon we will be in contact with you. We would love to extend an invitiation to you to be a part of our Leja Bulela community.

from you! Just read and hit the links provided. 5 minutes of your day is
all it would take to affect the lives of many children half way around
the world. Lot's of people ask, "I want to help people in need, but
how?" This is how: (did I mention this requires no MONEY from you!!)

I'd like to tell you about a project I saw on Members Project. It's

across Africa. What will Members Project do this year? The decision is
yours. Please nominate this project.

OUR PROJECT. ONCE YOU'RE ON OUR PROJECT PAGE YOU WILL BE ALBE TO

Special report: 2008 Olympic Games

BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- The president of DR Congo Olympic Committee expressed his hope here Monday that his athletes would achieve good results in the Beijing Olympics.
Jean Beya Wa Kabenga admitted that it would be difficult for DR Congo athletes to win their first-ever Olympic gold, but still hopes for the best from the quadrennial world sports gala.
"It's sports and only the best is winner," said Kabenga, "We didn't expect our athletes to make perfect results. But they qualified for the Olympiad and they will do their best to win."
"We trust them to make something for the weather in Beijing is just similar to what we have in Congo. It fits us."
Kabenga praised the organization of the Beijing Olympics.
"The organization job is so great and we have nothing to comment. We now are busy managing the team but I'm looking forward to spending sometime in Beijing after the Games."
DR Congo is sending five athletes to China to compete in track and field, judo, swimming and boxing.
DR Congo made its debut at the Olympics in 1968 as Congo Kinshasa. After an absence of 16 years, the nation returned to the Olympic family in 1984 as Zaire. Since the 2000 Sydney Games, it has been competing as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, or DR Congo.

Topics of discussion were

Discussion on Membership Dues
-Discuss importance of us getting more young adults committed. We discussed that members are committed when they invest financially. So our focus for the month of August will be to get the young adult group to pay their membership dues.
-Decided on a Goal to have all Chairpersons pay dues by August 31, this is 9 individuals paying $100 to $50 each, which will result in us having between $500 to $1,000 in membership fees from the young adults.
- We will also reach out to other young adults within our families to pay their membership dues even if its just $25 to start.

Discussion on Fundraising
- Goal for August is to get more young adults to submit their $25 towards the clinic fundraising
- Amex Fundraising project – Thierry discussed the Amex Fundraising project. Essentially, we need to submit a project and get people to log in and vote on it. There is about $1million plus that will be distributed to 25 projects that are selected.
